Beautiful Park

Take a stroll through the beautiful park the Bench is located in. Take a breath of the crisp, fresh air during the Autumn, or bask in the warm golden glow during the warmer months. Admire the beautiful, bright greens and deep browns of Ireland's flora and keep your eyes peeled for the occasional elusive fox and rabbit. Down at the local River Nanny one can also enjoy the soft sounds of the stream or cool down on a hot day. Home to otters, herons and kingfishers (among many others), the river is also a biological hotspot where you can relax after a good trip to the Batman Bench.

Diverse wildlife within reach

The Batman Bench is situated near a myriad of bird nests and habitats. From your common blackbird to the rare nightlark, life truly blooms around this great cultural landmark, and it is all for you to enjoy from the comfort of the Bench. If you come during our later hours and sit very patiently, the occasional fox may be seen darting through the grassy knolls, and the birdsong as dusk is a magnificent experience we highly recommend to any visitors to our lovely bench.

Tuam Youth Revitalisation Project

Recently we have heard of interviews being taken by the Galway County Council at the St. Joseph's Park, where our beautiful bench is located. We would be more than happy to get in contact with these volunteers to help promote a better park, a better town and to help promote this bench to everyone in Tuam, and to finally put it on the map as an attraction for everyone visiting (and living in) Tuam to enjoy! 

Bench Mythology

According to local legend, the bench is said to be worth twice its weight in gold! In time long forgotten, its had its fair share of robbery attempts but each time the people of Tuam have banded together as a community and stopped the wannabe thieves. Take a seat and enjoy yourself here at the Batman Bench, discovering and inventing the mythology surrounding this true cultural landmark of Tuam.

Intricate Tattoos

There is something odd about the Batman Bench that is not present on any other bench in the world, it is tattooed! Yes, this unique and marvellous Bench has accumulated many tattoos over the years from its many youthful visitors and you can see the new and old to this day, decorating our beautiful Bench. A hallmark of the youth culture in Tuam, we highly encourage all visitors to take any of those stickers and tattoos they have and apply them to our bench upon visiting. We ask that no obscenities or inappropriate material is placed on the bench as this will have to be removed by members of staff. That being said enjoy your time decorating this bench and making it your own, as this bench shares in the heart of all of us in our own special way.
